Adopt, Don’t Merely Admire
“Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 2:5
Read Philippians 2:5. Write the word “adopt” in your journal. Consider the difference between admiring the attitude of Jesus and allowing that attitude to shape your next decision.
It is possible to be moved by the humility of Jesus without becoming humble. We can sing about his love, study his example, and still protect our preferences when obedience becomes inconvenient.
Practice
Choose one ordinary situation where you can adopt Christ’s attitude today. Give someone else credit, apologize without adding an excuse, listen without forming a rebuttal, or yield a preference that does not need to become a battle.
Prayer
Jesus, I do not want to admire your humility from a distance. Form your attitude in me. Help me make one choice today that looks like you.
