Bring Your Suffering to God

“Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray.”

James 5:13

James begins with a simple invitation: when you suffer, pray. He does not ask you to minimize the pain, explain it away, or wait until you understand it. He tells you where to take it.

The word suffering covers the broad hardships of life. James is writing to believers who knew pressure, loss, injustice, and uncertainty. His answer is not a technique for escaping pain. It is a relationship. Prayer turns suffering into honest conversation with God.

Practice

Set aside a quiet moment today and tell God the truth about what hurts. Do not clean it up. Name the anger, grief, fear, disappointment, or confusion. If you do not know what to say, begin with, “Lord, this is not how I thought it would be.” Then keep talking.

Prayer

Lord, You already know what hurts, but I choose to bring it to You. Meet me in the place I have tried to avoid. Help me trust that You are present, even when I cannot see what You are doing. Amen.
