Charging the Next Generation
“Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don't be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you.”
1 Chronicles 28:20
David doesn't just leave Solomon materials; he leaves him a charge. He hands off courage, calling, and the promise of God's presence to the one coming behind him.
Finishing well isn't only about what you accomplish; it's about who you send. David knew Solomon was “young and inexperienced,” so he strengthened him with the best thing he had — the assurance that God would not leave or abandon him until the work was done. Legacy is measured less in monuments and more in the people you equip.
Practice
Who is coming behind you? A child, a new believer, a student, a teammate, a friend one step behind you in faith? They don't just need your resources; they need your encouragement. This week, speak a specific “charge” over one person — name what you see God doing in them and remind them that he is with them.
Prayer
Father, help me finish well by lifting others up. Bring to mind the person you want me to encourage, and give me the words to strengthen them. Make me generous with courage, not just advice. Thank you that you never leave or abandon your people until the work is done. Amen.
