Devotion

Fully known, and no shame in it

Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.

Genesis 2:25

This is the last verse before everything breaks. It is a snapshot of the way life was supposed to work.

Naked here is about more than clothing. It means nothing was covered. There were no masks, no editing, no managed version of themselves. Adam and Eve were completely known by each other and completely known by God, and it did not hurt. That was the design.

Practice

Think about where you work hardest to control what people see. Maybe it is at work. Maybe at church. Maybe with your own family. Now name one person who knows the real you and has not walked away. If you can name someone, thank God for them today and tell them what they mean to you. If you cannot name anyone, that is an honest place to start this week, and God is not surprised by it.

Prayer

Father, You made me to be fully known and unafraid. I have spent a long time managing what people see. Help me believe that being known is safe with You. Show me one person I can start being honest with. Amen.
