God's Better “No”
“Your house and kingdom will endure before me forever, and your throne will be established forever.”
2 Samuel 7:16
David wanted to build God a house. Instead, God says no to the temple — and then promises to build David a “house,” a dynasty that will never end.
God's “no” to David's plan wasn't rejection; it was redirection into something infinitely bigger. David dreamed of a building; God promised a kingdom without end. And this promise runs straight to Jesus, the Son of David whose throne truly lasts forever. What looked like a closed door was actually God opening eternity.
Practice
Some of the “no”s in your life may be God protecting a bigger “yes” you can't see yet. Think of a prayer God didn't answer the way you wanted. Can you begin to trust that his refusal might have been his kindness? You don't have to pretend it didn't hurt — but you can hold it in an open hand, believing God is writing a bigger story than the one you scripted.
Prayer
Lord, I confess I don't always understand your “no.” Help me trust that you are good even when you redirect my plans. Thank you that your greatest promise — Jesus, the King whose kingdom never ends — is better than anything I could build for myself. Give me faith to believe your plan is bigger than mine. Amen.
