Devotion
He despised the shame and sat down
“Keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2
Jesus walked into shame on purpose and came out the other side of it.
Crucifixion was not simply a way to kill someone. Rome had faster ways. It was a public humiliation, built to strip a person of every last piece of dignity and then display them beside the road as a warning. The shame was not a side effect of the cross. The shame was the point of it.
Practice
Find the verse that contradicts your “shame sentence” and put it somewhere you cannot avoid it. The bathroom mirror. Your lock screen. The dash of your truck. Romans 8:1 and Psalm 34:5 are good places to start. Read it out loud every morning for thirty days, especially on the mornings you do not feel it.
Prayer
Jesus, You walked into the shame that belonged to me and You never once agreed with it. Thank You that You sat down and it was finished. When the voice comes back this week, remind me there is no condemnation left for me. I am Yours. Amen.
