Devotion

Hiding from the only One who can heal you

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

Genesis 3:8

The second reflex of shame is to hide, and it is aimed at God.

When God asks about it, look at the order Adam gives him. He does not say he hid because he was afraid. He says he was naked, then afraid, then he hid. Exposure came first. Fear followed. Hiding came last.

Practice

Ask yourself who at church knows the actual truth about your week. Not the summary you give in the lobby. The truth. If the answer is nobody, pick one person and tell them one true thing before Sunday.

Prayer

Father, I have been hiding from the only One who can heal me. You already know, and You are already walking toward me. I am coming out. Give me one safe person and the courage to speak. Amen.
