Devotion

In It Together

“...because I have you in my heart, and you are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.”

Philippians 1:7

Paul doesn't just partner with the Philippians. He loves them — deeply, from the gut.

In verse 8, Paul says he misses them "with the affection of Christ Jesus," using a word for the inner organs, the deepest place of feeling. It's the same word the Gospels use when Jesus "had compassion" on the crowds. Partnership didn't just produce tasks and budgets; it produced family. Shared mission builds a love that attendance never will. Notice too what they shared: Paul's chains and his court defense. They stayed close when closeness was risky — standing with a prisoner was dangerous business in Rome.

Practice

Partnership grows in relationship, so put one relationship on the calendar. Invite one person from church into your week — a meal, a walk, a coffee — and ask one honest question: "How is your soul, really?" If you're not yet connected, take the step toward a community group this week. Being known is part of the mission, not a bonus to it.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you loved people with your whole heart, and you put your heart in Paul for the Philippians. Give me that kind of love for your church. Push me past handshakes into real friendship, and make me brave enough to go first. Amen.
