Devotion

Let Others Carry It With You

“Is anyone among you sick? He should call for the elders of the church, and they are to pray over him.”

James 5:14

James tells the suffering person to call for others. Need is not something to hide. It is a reason to invite the church closer.

The elders come, pray, and anoint the sick person in the name of the Lord. The focus is not on religious performance. The focus is dependence on God within the believing community. James assumes the church will be a place where people can admit weakness and receive care.

Practice

Choose one trusted believer today. Tell them where you are hurting and ask them to pray with you, not only for you later. You do not have to share every detail. Share enough to stop carrying it alone.

Prayer

Jesus, give me the humility to ask for help. Lead me to people who will listen, pray, and point me toward You. Use Your church to remind me that I do not have to suffer alone. Amen.
