Devotion
Look Toward Others
“Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:4
Read Philippians 2:3–4. Pay attention to the word “look.” Paul is describing deliberate attention, the choice to notice another person’s concerns instead of remaining absorbed in your own.
Paul does not say that your needs are unimportant. Healthy humility does not require neglecting your responsibilities, ignoring wise boundaries, or tolerating abuse. He challenges the assumption that your needs, opinions, and recognition should always come first.
Practice
Choose one person today and ask a sincere question about how they are doing. Listen without interrupting or preparing your response. Then take one practical step based on what you heard: send encouragement, offer help, make time, or pray with them.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, lift my eyes from myself. Help me notice the person in front of me and listen with patience. Show me one need I can meet with the love of Jesus today.
