Partners From the First Day

“...because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”

Philippians 1:5

One word carries this verse: partnership. Paul's word, koinonia, isn't a potluck word. It's a partnership word.

In Paul's world, koinonia described a business partnership — people pooling money, risk, and work toward one goal. That's what the Philippians were to Paul. They supported him financially when no other church did (Philippians 4:15-16). Lydia opened her home the very day she believed, because partnership starts at "yes," not after years of attending. They gave out of poverty (2 Corinthians 8:1-5), sent Epaphroditus at great personal cost, and prayed through prison nights. Ten years of shared history is packed into one phrase: "from the first day until now." Sunday's big idea lives here — attendance puts you in the room, but partnership puts you on the mission.

Practice

Choose one partnership step and put a date on it this week: join a serving team, begin giving, open your home for a meal or a group night, or commit to praying by name every day for one missionary or church leader. A step written down with a day attached is far more likely to happen.

Prayer

Jesus, you didn't call me to watch your kingdom happen. You called me in. Forgive me for the seasons I sat in the stands. Show me my one step this week, and give me the courage to take it on the day I said I would. Amen.
