Devotion
Tell the Truth About the Wound
“Please forgive your brothers’ transgression and their sin—the suffering they caused you.”
Genesis 50:17
Joseph’s brothers finally name what they did. They call it transgression, sin, and suffering. The harm is not minimized.
Years earlier, Joseph’s brothers betrayed him, sold him, and allowed their father to believe he was dead. By Genesis 50, much has changed, but the wound still has a history. After Jacob dies, the brothers fear Joseph will finally repay them. Their fear shows what unaddressed guilt does: it keeps expecting punishment.
Practice
Write down what happened using plain words. Then name what it cost you. Do this privately with God or with a trusted pastor, counselor, or mature believer. The goal is not to relive the wound. The goal is to stop hiding it behind vague language.
Prayer
God of truth and mercy, help me name what happened without being ruled by it. Keep me from minimizing the wound or using it to justify bitterness. Lead me toward honest grief, wise boundaries, and real healing. Amen.
