Devotion
The Lord Who Took the Servant’s Place
“Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant.”
Philippians 2:7
Read Philippians 2:6–8. Trace the movement of the passage: Jesus did not exploit his status, took the form of a servant, humbled himself, and became obedient to death on a cross.
Jesus did not stop being God. He refused to use his status for his own advantage and took the servant’s place. The eternal Son entered human weakness and walked the road of obedience all the way to the cross.
Practice
Do one act of secret service today. Complete a task no one wants, meet a practical need, clean something, give something away, or make another person’s day easier. Do not post it, mention it, or use it to strengthen your image. Let it be worship.
Prayer
Jesus, you took the servant’s place and went to the cross for me. Thank you for meeting me in my sin and need. Give me willing hands and a quiet heart so I can serve without needing recognition.
