We're more connected than ever and yet lonelier than ever — and the pressure on men to silently "have it all together" only deepens the isolation. In 1 Samuel 18 and 20, God knits David and Jonathan together in a covenant friendship that becomes essential to David's survival: Jonathan — the king's son and rightful heir — sacrificially lays down his own claim, stands by David even against his own father, and binds himself to David's family for generations. Their story shows that God never designed us for "I got this" self-reliance; He strengthens us through covenant brotherhood — the kind of friend who shows up at 3 a.m. when the bottom drops out. The challenge isn't just to find a Jonathan, but to be one.
