Weekly Staff/Leadership Email – Mind the Small Cracks 🇺🇸

Church family,

Happy 4th of July! I'm so grateful for the country we call home and for the freedoms we get to enjoy every single day — including the freedom to gather and worship openly. And I'm deeply thankful for the men and women who sacrificed so much so that we could live in that freedom. We stand on the shoulders of people who paid a price we'll never fully see.

A word from Sunday: small compromises, big collapses

This morning we continued our series The Story of David with a message called When You Fall. We looked at that moment in 2 Samuel 11 when David — a man after God's own heart — stayed home when he should have been at war, and one unguarded evening set off a landslide of compromise, cover-up, and heartbreak.

Here's what I can't shake, and it was the heartbeat of the message:

The sin you tolerate today is the sin that defeats you tomorrow.

David didn't wake up one morning and decide to blow up his life. Nobody does. He simply tolerated a small crack, and left untreated, it grew into a collapse. As the old saying goes, sin will take you further than you want to go, cost you more than you want to pay, and keep you longer than you want to stay.

Personally, this is a question I've been wrestling with over the last couple of weeks since writing this message: Where are there small compromises in my life that are giving the enemy an open door? I want to be someone who knows my areas of weakness — so that I can put systems and guardrails in place to protect me from the enemy's attacks before the moment of temptation ever comes.

While none of us will ever be perfect, we should make a conscious, daily effort to fight sin's influence and its ramifications in our lives. Let us be the men and women who seek and desire to live holy lives that are above reproach. And if you missed the message this morning because you were out of town or enjoying the long weekend, be sure to look it up online later this afternoon or tomorrow morning — it's worth the listen.

A quick update from Social Circle

If you were with us at Social Circle this morning, you may have noticed our brand-new kids room! It's amazing what fresh paint, new carpet, and trim will do to transform a space. I'm so thankful for a church family that keeps investing in the next generation and in creating great environments where our kids can experience Jesus. We've got more construction and painting ahead in the coming weeks, so please bear with us and be patient as we make progress. We believe in the next generation, and we want to create the very best spaces we possibly can for them.

Events & Opportunities

  • Wednesday — Grove Student Ministry (GSM) Night at the Country Club: If you've got a 6th–12th grade student, join us for swimming and hanging out from 7–9 PM at the Monroe Country Club.
  • This Sunday — Old-Fashioned Potluck at Social Circle: Our Social Circle campus will have a potluck lunch immediately following the service. Bring a dish to share and stay for some good food and fellowship.

Would you pray with me this week?

  • For our Social Circle Student Director and Production Director searches — that God would provide the right people in His timing.
  • For our team — July is a prep month to get ready for the fall, so pray we'd plan well now for everything the Lord wants to do in this next season.

Grateful to walk with you,

Nathan
